A study published on April 16, 2009 in the American Journal of epidemiology describes that magnesium deficiency is linked to increased risk of ischemic stroke. This research involved over 14,200 men and women between the ages of 45 to 64 years. The follow-up was carried out over 15 years. The lower the levels of magnesium the higher the risk of stroke as well as correlation with hypertension and diabetes.
Stroke is a very devastating disease affecting millions of people in the population. It is a disease that can be prevented.
We need to employ a comprehensive medical nutritional approach to understand cardiovascular risk factors, and the underlying causes of stroke. We need to test for vitamin and mineral levels, and perfect them as well as correcting hormone decline. We need to include exercise in our lifestyle on a daily basis. In a comprehensive review of literature I believe that there are over 50 individual significant cardiovascular risk factors. These are things that I routinely test for in my patients.
